NDMAC Fly-In August 2008
The club held its annual Fly-In this year on Saturday 23rd August, as with most Saturdays this year the weather forecasted was not looking good.
The usual preparations to our flying site had taken place over the previous week such as the lane and sides of the runway being strimmed and the weeds on the runway sorted out. The gazebo , banner and flags were put up on the Friday evening and the drums , red and white tape to mark the start up box were set out as well with a few members having a flight or two as the wind in the evening started to settle down. It was decided to leave the sides of the gazebo in case the winds came up over night.
In the morning the sun was shining with no sign of rain and just a little wind. We arranged to meet at the site about 9.30 and to put on the sides to the gazebo plus set up the tables for log in and transmitter pound. Every pilot logged in and insurance checked was given a raffle ticket for prizes drawn later in the day. There was a good turn out of pilots and most with two or three planes and some with many more, there was not many visitors this year but with the forecasted weather this was understandable. Pete started of the days flying by taken Bill up for a successful take off, flight and landing (mustn’t need any more engines).
A good deal of flying was taking place as the weather was good, the barbeque was lit, Phelim had arrived with one of his jet’s and gave a display after he landed we stopped for lunch break. A lot more flying took place after the lunch break as the pilots wanted to get as many flights in as they could as the black clouds started to appear over the horizon, it wasn’t long before the rain started to come down and the winds got up.
Mr Chairman called us to the gazebo for the raffle draw was going to take place as some people started to leave due to the weather. A good selection of prizes had been put up by the club which had been purchased from Brian, with Brian and his wife putting in many more themselves, with the result that most people getting at least one prize with some getting two.
The last prize to be awarded was a special prize announced by Dennis, it went to Pete for the one and only crash of the day, it was a wooden spoon detailed with a crashed plane NDMAC 2008 Fly-In.
