NDMAC Family Barbecue 2022

A Day to Remember

Saturday 28th May 2022 was a very special day. After an imposed break of two years due to the pandemic, our club was again able to hold its Fly In and Family Barbecue at Kirkistown and what a day we had! Blessed with glorious sunshine and a refreshing breeze (it was quite windy!), club members and their families and friends enjoyed a day out to remember. Accompanied by music tracks from Colin Barnes sound system, ace pilots such as Mike Brown thrilled with superb aerobatics and jet turbine powered high speed passes. The rest of us enjoyed flying our usual modest repertoires and everyone landed safely.
The undoubted star of the show was the fabulous barbecue. Tony Barnes lit the coals early in the day and was soon providing tasty burgers and sausages. These were accompanied by lovely soft baps and an impressive array of side salads and all the usual burger accompaniments and sauces freely available on a help yourself basis. Many made the return journey to the top table for refills!
Entertaining flying and terrific food contributed greatly to the day but it was the lovely relaxed atmosphere and friendships formed that became the abiding memory for many. Same again next year please!

We Welcome Dr Joe Butterfield

NEW MEMBER

We were delighted to welcome a new member, Dr Joe Butterfield of QUB's department of Mechanical & Aerospace engineering, who has recently joined the Club.
Joe brings along an enthusiastic group of aeronautical students together with their prototype planes, which they are testing at the airfield.  Eventually the models will be programmed to take of, fly a pre programmed flight path, return and land automatously.  Brilliant!!  We watched the students engrossed with laptops, fine tuning the flight information which would then be uploaded to the models.
We thoroughly enjoyed seeing their progress in this regard and look forward to having them at Kirkistown again soon.

A brilliant evening was enjoyed by all.  Food and service - simply wonderful.  As always, the craic was great.

So, a very big thank you to Mark and his team and to all the young servers who worked tirelessly throught the evening.  That made our annual Xmas Dinner at 'Stables' one of the best we have experianced.
